The Minister of Health and Sanitation says the Government remains vigilant, prepared, and fully committed to protecting public health.

Minister of Health and Sanitation Madalitso Baloyi made the remarks today at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe during the handover of Ebola Viral Haemorrhagic Fever (VHF) kits and Cholera Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) supplies from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Baloyi thanked the World Health Organization (WHO) for its continued support to Malawi’s health security efforts, particularly through the procurement of rechargeable batteries and chargers for infrared thermometers used in traveller screening at points of entry.

Meanwhile, WHO Representative Dr. Charles Njuguna stressed that preparedness remains the country’s strongest shield against Ebola and other emerging health threats. He emphasized the need for continuous training, functional screening systems, clear referral mechanisms, and strong multi-sectoral collaboration.

Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) Executive Director George Jobe said the organization appreciates both the World Health Organization and the Government for the timely support.

Jobe also urged people to regularly wash their hands with soap, ensure that the water they use is safe, and seek medical attention immediately if they experience any signs or symptoms of illness.

Currently, Malawi has not recorded any confirmed case of Ebola.
