Center for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) has urged youths in Salima District to avoid political violence as the September polls approach.
Speaking on Friday in Salima during orientation for youth peer educators, CHRR Programs Officer Maxwell Mvula encouraged young people to promote peace and tolerance, emphasizing that violence undermines development and stability.
Mvula said Salima district was chosen because it has a history of election-related incidents, which led to it being designated a hotspot district.
“We’re training youths on key electoral processes, focusing on peaceful strategies to curb political violence in Salima,” Mvula said.

Salima District MEC Officer Alinafe Chisenga concurred with Mvula, highlighting youths’ tendency to engage in political violence.
“Most of the time youths are used in electoral violence. We’re happy CHRR organized a training for the youths, and we expect them to relay the message to their fellows,” Chisenga added.
The initiative is part of an 8-month, 69,000 US Dollars project implemented in Mangochi, Salima, and Karonga districts with support from Zivik-ifa..
