DMI STUDENT DIE IN A ROAD ACCIDENT.

A second-year education student from DMI University, Mangochi Campus, identified as Samuel Josephy, aged 22, has lost his life on the evening of 7 April 2025 after being hit by a speeding minibus along the Arthur Peter Mutharika Highway.

According to Mangochi police Public Relations Officer Amina Tepani Daud, the accident involved a Toyota Hiace minibus, registration number PE 10498, driven by Mike Justine, aged 40, of Mulandani Village, Traditional Authority Mpama in Chiradzulu. He was driving from Liwonde towards Mangochi with 12 passengers on board.

Upon arrival at the DMI University Trading Centre, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit Joseph, who was crossing the road from right to left, which resulted in sustained severe head injuries and fractured ribs, and he was rushed to Mangochi District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Daudi further said that the driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled but later surrendered himself to Mangochi Police Station around midnight, where he is currently in police custody and is expected to appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, police in the district are urging all road users, especially drivers, to strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent such tragic incidents.

Samuel Josephy hails from Chimbiya village, Traditional Authority Tambala, in Dedza District.
