The Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) has urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government to seize the momentum of its first 100 days in office by tackling pressing economic and social challenges.

In a statement signed by Executive Director John Kapito, CAMA acknowledged the initial strides made by the administration but stressed that this critical period offers a unique opportunity to set the tone for sustainable governance.

Despite efforts to stabilize the economy through new fiscal policies and initiatives to boost agricultural production, Malawians continue to grapple with rising inflation, food insecurity, and limited access to essential services.

CAMA has called on President Arthur Peter Mutharika to build on early accomplishments by articulating a clear, inclusive vision that addresses the urgent needs of citizens over the next five years.

The association insists that immediate action must prioritize economic recovery and social inclusion, particularly for vulnerable communities. It emphasized that effective policies should transcend political popularity and deliver tangible, long-term benefits. While recognizing government efforts to improve infrastructure and expand electricity access, CAMA cautioned against relying on measures that yield short-term political gains but fail to create lasting change.

The association urged the establishment of a robust framework to monitor and assess progress in addressing both immediate and long-term national challenges.

CAMA has underscored the importance of transparency and citizen engagement during this foundational period, advocating for policies that genuinely improve lives and foster a sustainable future for all Malawians.

The DPP has been in power for 52 days since Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was sworn in as the 7th President of the Republic of Malawi on October 4, 2025, following his victory in the September 16 polls.
