President Lazarus Chakwera has reiterated his government’s commitment to creating youth-orientated policies to address challenges facing the youth in various sectors of development.

Dr. Chakwera said this on Saturday at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during the swearing-in ceremony of Peter Dimba as minister of labour and Baba Steve Malondera as deputy minister of transport and public works.

He also challenged them to work towards improving the welfare of young people in the country.

“We are always looking for more innovative ways to bring youth voices to the table of governance, which is why recently we have also initiated the SONA for the Youth events that have already happened in Lilongwe and Blantyre.”He added.

Minister of Labour Peter Dimba pledged to work towards improved labour conditions among the youth in both the public and private sectors.

“We are aware of the challenges that young people are facing and will put in place reforms to change the trajectory, he said.

Baba Steven Malondera, Deputy of Transport and public works concurred with President Chakwera on the need to engage more youths, describing them as key players of the country’s economy.

In the 2025-2026 national budget, the government included the introduction of the Youth Innovation Grant that is expected to start disbursing loans to young people to boost their financial capacity.

According to Dr. Chakwera the grants will increase youth access to the support they need, to supplement the K75 billion that has already been distributed to youths over the past four years, resulting in the creation of over 75,000 youth-led businesses around the
 country.
