Salima District Council Public Works office has expressed gratitude on how members of parliament in the district have utilized the constituency development fund (CDF) since 2019.

Director of Public Works Harris Kumwenda says parliamentarians have managed to construct some notable infrastructures, such as Kaputu community day secondary school blocks, Kaning’a bridge, Kapiri Admarc, and Ngodzi police unit administration block.

“They have properly managed the fund, and the developmental projects they have delivered have reduced the social and economic challenges that our district was encountering,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of all the members, Salima Central and North West constituency parliamentarians Gerlad Kapisen Phiri and Enock Phale assured the residents in their areas that they will continue delivering developments through the fund.

Commenting on the matter, Salima-based social commentator Joseph Kandiyesa also expressed satisfaction with how the funds have been used; however, he has asked the members to also consider allocating enough budget for the bursaries.

Previously each constituency was given MK200 million kwacha, but in the new budget, CDF is now increased to MK220 million..
